Oct. 1, 1967: The Red Sox complete a two-game sweep of the Twins with a 5-3 victory in the final game of the season to clinch at least a tie for the American League pennant. The pennant is secured hours later when the Tigers lose the second game of a doubleheader to the Angels.
 
May 15, 1998: Just a handful of days after making his major league debut, Framingham native Lou Merloni hits a home run in his first at-bat at Fenway Park, a three-run shot off of Royals pitcher Jose Rosado, leading the Red Sox to a 5-2 win.
